Add predecessors to your schedule tasks to show dependencies between tasks and ensure that changes to individual tasks affect all other tasks. This saves you time when making changes and allows you to quickly see the consequences of the changes you make.
To be able to add predecessors, you must be assigned to the
"Project management" group in the project.
Here you will soon also be able to find the training video for the article.
Click Path:
- Workspace Planning > Select project > Schedules > Open schedule
- Predecessors can be added via 3 ways:
- Double-click on the bar of a task or select a task and open the navigation bar via the button at the top right. In the second tab "Dependencies" click on Add predecessor. Select the operation for which a dependency is to be set. Specify whether a delay (buffer) should be built in. This can be a negative as well as a positive value. Then select one of the 4 predecessor types:
- Finish Start (FS) - The predecessor task must be finished for the successor task to start (with delay: the successor task starts x days earlier or later).
- Start Start (SS) - the predecessor task must be started so that the successor task can start (with delay: successor task starts x days earlier or later)
- Finish Finish (FF) - the predecessor task must be finished so that the successor task can be finished (with delay: successor task finishes x days earlier or later)
- Start Finish (SF) - The predecessor task must be started for the successor task to finish (with delay: successor task finishes x days earlier or later).
- Double-click on the field in the Predecessor column. Then you can add predecessors by specifying the ID of the predecessor task and abbreviations mentioned above. Examples:
- 1FS: The predecessor task with the ID 1 must be finished, so that the successor task can start.
- 1FS+5D: The predecessor task with ID 1 must be completed for the successor task to start 5 days later.
- 1FS - 5D: The successor task starts 5 days before the predecessor task with ID 1 ends.
- In the Gantt chart, move the mouse over the bar of a task to which you want to add a predecessor. Click on the start or end point and keep the left mouse button pressed. Now drag the connecting line to the start or end point of the predecessor task and release the mouse button.
